The SPS national PGD template for varenicline to support smoking cessation has been developed with the support of specialist stakeholders including the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT), Collee of Mental Health Pharmacy (CMHP) and NHSE.

Cytisinicline (cytisine) PGD template
A requirement for the development of a national PGD template is that there is published national guidance which supports the use of the medicine and details its place in therapy.
NICE are currently reviewing the evidence supporting cytisinicline with an expected publication date of February 2025.
As soon as this guidance is available the SPS PGD smoking cessation short life working group will finalise their drafted cytisinicline PGD template in line with NICE’s guidance. Once the PGD template has passed through the appropriate governance process it will be published here.
